RBI Grade B Exam: An Overview

The reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducts RBI Grade B exam to recruit officers to the following departments of the apex bank:

1)  Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM)

2)  Department of Economic Policy and Research (DEPR)

3)  Direct Recruitment (DR) General Cadre

Eligibility Criteria:

1)  Age limit: Minimum– 21 years; Maximum– 30 years

2)  Nationality:

  1. Citizen of India
  2. Subjects of Nepal
  3. Subjects of Bhutan
  4. Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with an intention to settle in India
  5. Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Zaire, Uganda, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Malawi, and United Republic of Tanzania to permanently settle in India.

3)  Educational Qualifications:

  1. DR General Cadre: Graduation in any discipline or equivalent professional qualification.
  2. DEPR:
  3. Masters in Economics/Quantitative Economics/Integrated Economics/Mathematical Economics/Finance/Econometrics or equivalent qualification; OR
  4. MBA/PGDM Finance; OR
  5. Masters in any of the sub-category of economics i.e. applied/developmental/business/agricultural
  • These degrees should be from a recognized Indian and Foreign University/Institute.

c. DSIM

  1. Masters in Econometrics/Mathematical Economics/Statistics/ Statistics & Informatics Mathematical Statistics from IIT-Kharagpur/Applied Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Bombay; OR
  2. Masters in Mathematics; OR
  3. M Stat. degree from Indian Statistical Institute; OR
  4. Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) which is jointly offered by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and ISI Kolkata; OR

Exam Pattern:

The exam is conducted in 3 phases:

1)  Phase I :

  1. General Awareness
  2. English Language
  3. Quantitative Aptitude
  • Reasoning
  • Time duration: 120 minutes/ 2 hours
  • Total Questions: 200
  • Maximum marks: 200
  • Type of questions: Objective

2)  Phase II:

  1. Paper I: Economics and social issues
  2. 30 objective questions
  3. 6 descriptive questions, of which 4 needs to be answered
  4. Maximum marks: 100
  5. Time duration: 120minutes/2 hours
  6. Paper II: English (Writing Skills)
  7. 3 descriptive questions
  8. Maximum marks: 100
  9. Time duration: 90 minutes
  10. Paper III: Finance and Management
  11. 30 objective questions
  12. 6 descriptive questions, of which 4 needs to be answered
  13. Maximum marks: 100
  14. Time duration: 120 minutes/2 hours

3)  Phase III: Interview

  • Maximum marks: 75
