About Product
It gives me immense pleasure to write the preface of my first book GENDER, SCHOOL AND SOCIETY. This is a book on attention to gender matters in the society. The meaning and experience of being a boy or a girl is not the same across different social groups, regions and time-periods. The history of long-oppressed Indian womanhood forced her to identify herself as a subordinate individual and as a mere instrument of man. This gradually destroyed her self-confidence and in tum destroyed her self-concept. She began to suppress her real feelings and it became difficult for her to untangle her true self from the existing social roles. For more than two decades, the goal of reducing gender inequality has held a prominent place in international organizations and in national strategy statements. The Constitution of India not only grants equality to ~omen, but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favor of women. Within the framework of a democratic polity, our laws, development policies, Plans and programmes have aimed at women's advancement in different spheres. India has also ratified various international conventions and human rights instruments committing to secure equal rights of women. This Book covers the syllabus of two year Bachelor' of Education as per N.C.T.E. Regulation 2014. It has twenty chapters. I acknowledge with thanks a very encouraging support from Professor P Shekhar, Dean Education, Vinoba Bhave University and Principal, Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad. Special thanks are also due to Sri Ravi Agrawal, Agrawal Publication and the publishing team.
