The new Xam idea for Classes X Social Science 2019-20 has been thoroughly revised, diligently designed and uniquely formatted in accordance with CBSE requirements and NCERT guidelines. The features of the new Xam idea are as follows: 1. The books have been thoroughly revised as per the new CBSE Examination-Paper design. 2. Each chapter is summarised in the form of flowcharts under the heading ‘Basic Concepts’ followed by some ‘Important Terms’ and ‘Important Events’. 3. NCERT Textbook questions with answers have been incorporated. 4. Previous Years’ Questions have been added under different sections according to their marks. 5. Objective Type Questions have been included as per new CBSE guidelines. These include Multiple Choice Questions, Very Short Answer Questions, True-False, Match the Columns and Fill in the Blanks. 6. Map Questions and HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills)-based Questions have also been included. 7. Project Work has been incorporated at the end of the book. 8. At the end of every chapter, Self-Assessment Test has been given to test the extent of grasp by the student. 9. As per the new CBSE guidelines, the students have to undergo Internal Assessment along with the Year-end Examination. 10. Three Periodic Tests have been provided in the book for Internal Assessment in the form of Pen-Paper Test (5 marks) and Multiple Assessment (5 marks). 11. Unsolved Model Question Papers have been included for ample practice by the student. 12. There are certain changes in the syllabus for the session 2019-20. These have been noted below: (a) One chapter has been deleted from Class IX syllabus, i.e., ‘Peasants and Farmers’. (b) Three chapters have been deleted from Class X syllabus, i.e., ‘The Nationalist Movement in Indo-China’, ‘Work, Life and Leisure’ and ‘Novels, Society and History’. One chapter has been added, i.e., ‘Forest and Wildlife Resources’. (c) There are five chapters in Class X which would be assessed only during the Periodic Tests and will not be included in Board Examination. These are: ‘Forest and Wildlife Resources’, ‘Water Resources’, ‘Democracy and Diversity’, ‘Popular Struggles and Movements’ and ‘Challenges to Democracy’. (d) One chapter in Class X is supposed to be done only as Project Work, i.e., ‘Consumer Rights’.
