About Product
The book contains some selected papers and overviews presented at an international conference on advances in pattern recognition and digital techniques organised by India Statistical Institute at Calcutta and co-sponsored by International Association of Pattern Recognition. The theme of the book is evolution to the next generation Knowledge Based Computing Systems (KBCS). For this the requirements are practical implementations of Pattern Analysis and Recognition, Speech/Language Processing and Recognition, Image/Signal processing/analysis/recognition, knowledge based systems, artificial intelligence, expert systems and parallel processing architectures, which forms the core functions of Fifth Generation Computing Systems (FGCS) The chapters of the volume are arranged in the above order, authored by reputed researchers from different countries. The first chapter of the volume gives an out line of the contemporary state-of-the-art on these subjects along with mechanism formalisation of human machine interface and mechanism for inference, association and learning required for evolution to the FGCS The second chapter presents papers on methodological developments on pattern recognition and machine learning.Third and fourth chapters are mainly devoted on speech and picture processing and recognition because these are the two natural modes of human-machine communication so important for FGCS objectives. Fifth chapter presents some papers on signal processing analysis and applications. Chapter 6 presents realisation of knowledge based approach for some specific applications and Chapter 7 presents diverse approaches that are being experimented with for realisation of parallel processing architectures suitable for FGCS/KBCS systems and applications. The book will be useful as a reference book both for researchers and teachers in postgraduate and undergraduate classes on Al, PR, IP, CV and also KBCS architectures.
