About Product
In this book, the alternative sources of energy have been dealt with at some length, to impress upon the common man the limitless possibilities of replacing oil and gas by known and almost freely available non–conventional sources of energy. This may provide an answer to the question of finding substitute for oil and gas in our everyday life. Solar energy impresses the common man as one good substitute, but it will not be popular until devices for utilising it are available in plenty and at low cost. The need for utilising natural sources of energy available at hand is recognised, but the need for conserving the fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas is not yet realised by a large section of the society. In urban areas oil, gas and their products are used freely and profusely, often wasting a large portion of these. People in rural areas, where sunlight and biomass are abundant, must increasingly use alternative sources of energy. The object of this book is to make the common man understand how oil and gas are difficult to discover and even more difficult to produce and process, and to create awareness about the need to conserve them. The need to conserve this valuable human heritage will be realised progressively. To what extent this objective of the book has been fulfilled, can be judged only by the reader. The book is extensive in scope. It is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the energy scene and alternative sources of energy, the second with exploration and production and the third with downstream operations of oil fields, namely, refining and petrochemicals.
