Such a person was Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. His real name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi but he was popularly called ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ for his valuable deeds. Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 at Porbandar in Rajk ot, Kathiawad in Gujarat. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was the Diwan of Rajkot. He was very a honest and religious minded person. His mother, Putli Bai, was also a pious lady of refined sensibilities. She never took her meals without performing her prayers. His parents greatly influenced Gandhiji.
