This book covers the syllabus of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination for the optional subject of Indian History. Sections A, B and C form the information units pertain broadly to the Ancient, Medieval and Modern periods of Indian history. However, the coverage is not limited to any specified syllabus, but extends to many topics which, it was felt, were necessary to provide a clear idea of the subject. In the matter of arranging and ordering the topics, the aim has been to present the matter in a manner easy to grasp and understand, thematically rather than in a strictly chronological way. The pattern of presentation has been designed for the student’s benefit. Section D gives a wide range of multiple choice questions on the entire subject, the emphasis being on the complex question-types. Explanatory notes are given alongwith answers. Section E gives a set of practice test papers. Each paper is accompanied with an answer sheet so that the student can actually get the feel of the examination. The book strives to be of use to the serious student taking up History for the Prelims examination at the State level
