The Feynman Lectures On Physics: Quantum Mechanics (Volume - 3) is jointly written by Richard P. Feynman, Robert B. Leighton and Matthew Sands, and is aimed at introducing the concepts of Quantum Mechanics for the students of physics. Summary Of The Book Quantum Mechanics is a branch of physics dealing with the mechanical description of subatomic particles. It explains the behavior of matter and describes the way it interacts with energy at the subatomic level, and relates these observations to day to day life. The Feynman Lectures On Physics: Quantum Mechanics (Volume - 3) is a compilation of the lectures by Richard P. Feynman, to the undergraduates in California Institute of Technology in 1961-64. It provides students with the necessary insights into the field of Quantum Mechanics. This is considered to be an essential read for anyone looking forward to build a strong foundation in this area. Richard P. Feynman’s deep knowledge in quantum mechanics can be exploited by the students in The Feynman Lectures On Physics: Quantum Mechanics (Volume - 3). Right from Newtonian physics to theories like relativity and quantum mechanics, detailed explanations for all the topics can be found in this book. The Feynman Lectures On Physics: Quantum Mechanics (Volume - 3) contains 21 chapters. Some of these are The Relation of Waves and Particles Viewpoints, The Dependence of Amplitudes on Time, The Hydrogen Atom and the Periodic Table, Propagation in a Crystal Lattice, and The Schrodinger Equation in a Classical Context. This book was published in 1970, and is considered to be Feynman’s most accessible work for physics students. It has been referred to for decades together. It was edited and illustrated into a book by his colleagues, Robert B. Leighton and Matthew Sands. This is not a book just for students of physics, but for anyone who wants to be introduced to this field. About The Authors Richard P. Feynman was a famous theoretical physicist and a well known scientist of his time. He shared the Nobel Prize for his work in developing quantum electrodynamics. He completed his Ph.D in 1942, from Princeton. He has written other works like Theory of Fundamental Processes, Feynman’s Lost Lecture: The Motion of Planets Around the Sun, The Character of Physical Law, Elementary Particles and the Laws of Physics: The 1986 Dirac Memorial Lectures, and Statistical Mechanics: A Set of Lectures. He was born on 11th May in 1918, in Manhattan, New York. He was married thrice. His first wife was Arline Greenbaum. Later, he married Mary Louise Bell. His third wife was Gweneth Howarth, with whom he had a son, Carl, and they also adopted a daughter, Michelle. Robert B. Leighton was an experimental physicist and a renowned teacher at Caltech. He was also an astronomer. He has also authored Principles of Modern Physics. Leighton was born in Detroit, on 10th September, in 1919. He got his Ph.D from Caltech in 1947, and then continued to teach at the same institute. Matthew Sands was a physicist and educator in the field of accelerator physics. He served as a professor in Caltech. He was born in Oxford, Massachusetts, on 20th October in 1920. He was first married to Elizabeth. After his divorce, he married Eunice Hawthorne.
