About the Author Arjun Dev was a Professor of History and the Head of NCERT's Social Science and Humanities Department. He has been associated with NCERT from 1963 to 2000 and has helped design the curriculum and textbooks from NCERT. He is now a Research Associate in the Towards Freedom project. He is also co-author of Towards Freedom 1941: Documents on the Movement for Independence in India - Part 1. Indira Arjun Dev is also a retired professor and has had a long association with NCERT. She has contributed towards many books on world history and the freedom struggle. She has helped in designing the curriculum and textbooks of NCERT.
